Vanderbilt Minerals: Kaolin, Pyrophyllite, and Wollastonite

The addition of the correct Vanderbilt mineral filler to a compound not only decreases product cost but can also increase its physical properties. The addition of mineral fillers can increase the viscosity, opacity and weight of the compound, and reduce shrinkage and cracking. The use of mineral fillers will also affect physical strength and vibration damping.

The use of VAN GEL® Magnesium Aluminum Silicate and VEEGUM® Magnesium Aluminum Silicate (smectite clay) as a suspending agent can significantly reduce challenges associated with the stabilization of aqueous dispersions. These clays can be used with other suspension stabilizers, such as VANZAN® Xanthan Gum, for even greater control over stability, viscosity and flow properties.
